Hans Zimmer to compose the score for Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984.
Despite formerly retiring from superhero films following 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, one of the most prolific modern composers is returning to the genre for next year’s Wonder Woman sequel.
Hans Zimmer takes over from Rupert Gregson-Williams, who composed the more-than-competent score for the first film, which will see Zimmer detour away from Batman and Superman, the two characters for whom he’s done extensive work over the years. Zimmer of course concocted the beloved introductory theme for Wonder Woman herself when she made her big screen debut in BvS.
Zimmer’s work on The Dark Knight trilogy is something we’ve recognized in our recent retrospective podcasts on Nolan’s three films, and we’re big fans of his work on recent films such as Inception, Interstellar, and Blade Runner 2049.
Wonder Woman 1984 is directed by Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. The film is set to release November 1st, 2019. Next up from DC/Warner Bros. is Aquaman. Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa, the next DC film is out this Christmas.
