Netflix secure rights to the Ryan Reynolds starring Michael Bay project Six Underground.

Netflix have announced their intention to keep growing as a major player in the movie industry with Variety reporting that the streaming service has won the bidding war for Micheal Bay’s upcoming project Six Underground, which is set to feature Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.

Reportedly facing stern competition from other studios, Netflix eventually won out having committed to a $125 million budget (around £93 million), making this this their most expensive acquisition to date, with the previous record being the reported $106 million dollars they paid for the upcoming Martin Scorsese production of The Irishman, which is set to reunite the director with a plethora of his former stalwarts including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci & Harvey Keitel.

Although the plot of Bay’s film is wrapped up in secrecy at the moment, there is strong speculation that it is intended to be a franchise starter described as a “mission movie”. What little is known about the plot is that it tells of six billionaires who fake their own deaths only to go underground and take on the forces of evil as, one would imagine, well equipped vigilantes.

Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are set to once again pen the script for this Ryan Reynolds project.
