Sony Pictures making a new Men in Black sequel with Chris Hemsworth & Tessa Thompson.

Sony Pictures have bandied the idea of a Men in Black reboot about for some time now and at one point it was being reported that the studio intended to bring the franchise back via a 21 Jump Street crossover starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. It now appears that that particular idea has (thankfully) been put back on the shelf with The Hollywood Reporter stating that the now in preproduction project will instead be a Thor Ragnarok reunion of sorts with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson taking on the lead roles.

Said to be a spin-off rather than a remake or sequel, the two Marvel stars who are soon to be seen in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War will replace the original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, but no firm details have been released about these new characters just yet.
Both of course have already displayed great chemistry and comic timing together in the recent hugely successful third Thor outing, so seem like fine choices to front the new movie.

The film is set to be directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Straight Outta Compton, The Fate Of The Furious) and Steven Spielberg is slated to return as Executive Producer. Original producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie McDonald are also said to be returning. Iron Man writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum have reportedly finished a script which is said to feature a story set in the same universe as the original films, whilst expanding the world of secret agent Alien Hunters, with several other agents said to feature, making it more of an ensemble piece rather than the (mainly) double act approach of the original films.

Sony has slated a release date of June 14th 2019.
