Director Tobe Hooper dies aged 74.

Acclaimed horror director Tobe Hooper has passed away aged 74. According to Variety, the cause of death hasn’t yet been made public but he passed away yesterday, Saturday August 26th, in Sherman Oaks, California.

Hooper is best know for his 1974 classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, an almost documentary style film shot on a shoestring budget that made an indelible mark on the horror genre and remains one of the most revered films of the 1970s. His equally beloved 1982 film, Poltergeist, which was produced by Steven Spielberg, is another horror classic that spawned two sequels and a poorly received 2015 remake. Hooper directed a slew of less successful horror films throughout his career that have retained a strong cult following amongst horror fans such as 1985’s Lifeforce and his off-the-wall 1986 horror/comedy sequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. He is survived by two sons.
