George Clooney cuts Josh Brolin out of his new film Suburbicon.

Josh Brolin may well be starring in two of the most anticipated comic book sequels of 2018 with roles as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Cable in Deadpool 2, but it appears that George Clooney doesn’t want him to get over exposure, after cutting all of Brolin’s scenes from his new movie Suburbicon.

Clooney who is the director’s chair for the feature told EW.,

“I had to write him this awful note where I just said ‘you’re not going to believe it but these scenes really don’t work anymore’. He felt bad and he thought maybe something went wrong and I said ‘I’m sending you the scenes so you can see, they’re actually the two funniest scenes in the movie’ The problem being that it’s not supposed to be an outright comedy.”

Clooney stated that after test screenings, Brolin’s comedic scenes had, “let the air out of the balloon, in terms of the tension in the film”. Clooney also revealed that it’s a process he is also familiar with and of how he felt when he was cut from the 1998 Terence Malick war movie, The Thin Red Line.

He recalled,
“I got a call from Terry [Malick], saying ‘we’re cutting out everything except the very last scene.’ I was like ‘please cut me completely out of the movie! Don’t leave me in one scene!’”.

Suburbicon is due for release October 27th in the US and is scripted by the Coen Brothers.
