Split proved to be a success not only in box office returns but was for many, a return to form for writer and director M. Night Shyamalan.

The film which told the story of a group of females taken hostage by a man with multiple personalities (James McAvoy) was essentially good enough to be a stand alone alone movie in its own right but the last minute reveal that it actually takes place in the same movie universe as the director’s 2000 super hero movie Unbreakable was a well kept secret and a revelation for fans of the movie that starred Bruce Willis as David Dunn, a man who discovered after a serious train accident, that he posses superhuman powers. The film also featured Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price who is later revealed to be the villain known as Mr Glass.

Although Unbreakable wasn’t as big a box office success as Shyamalan’s previous film, The Sixth Sense, it still pulled in a solid return and has gained a cult following over the years.

The director confirmed earlier this year that he intends to carry on the story and that his next film will be titled Glass. He has stated that this film will form the end of the trilogy and that he had originally intended to introduce the character of “The Beast” in Unbreakable and had also included more prominent scenes for Dunn and Price in Split but later felt it was better to let both stories play out separately.

The synopsis for the film comes courtesy of Cosmic Book News and is as follows;

“Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of “The Beast” in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.”

Split is due to start filming in a few weeks and will see Willis, Jackson and McAvoy reprising their previous roles in this trilogy capping sequel. An announcement of the release date has not yet been made but is expected soon.
