Sky Atlantic’s Tin Star to get a second season.

Sky Atlantic are firmly putting their weight behind their new drama series Tin Star and Digital Spy reports that the channel have shown their commitment to the show’s expected success by announcing that they have already commissioned a second season even before the airing of the first, which begins September 7th with the whole series available to watch on Sky’s On Demad service and is also available on Now TV.

This could be seen as a solid indication of the channel’s commitment to the production of more of its own home-grown dramas, having previously been more associated with US hits such as Game of Thrones and Madmen.

Tin Star stars Tim Roth as Jim Worth, a former British Police Officer who takes on the role of a small town American Sheriff. The show’s writer is Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later) and executive producer Alison Jackson said of the shows second season pick up;

“Rowan and I are thrilled to have another opportunity to delve deeper into the world we have all started to create – there is so much more to reveal about our fantastically complex array of characters.”

Sky Atlantic recently released their drama series Riviera starring Julia Styles, in the same format and that show received mixed reviews. Head of drama at Sky Atlantic, Anne Mensa had this to say about the recommissioning;

“When Tin Star launches this week, Sky Atlantic viewers will not only experience a hugely powerful tale of revenge with captivating, uncompromising characters, but will be left in no doubt as to why a second series was an absolute must.”

The Radio Times describes the synopsis of Tin Star is as follows;

From the producers of Broadchurch, Tin Star is written by the 28 Weeks Later screenwriter Rowan Joffe, and stars Tim Roth as Jim Worth, a former London detective beginning a new life as police chief of the idyllic town of Little Big Bear in the Rockies. Jim’s new-found utopia in the Rockies is shattered by the opening of an oil refinery nearby, which heralds a wave of drugs, prostitution and organised crime in the town. He takes a stand, unleashing a sequence of (extremely) bloody and tragic events that recall his violent, alcoholic past as the line between hero and villain becomes increasingly blurred.

The show also stars Christina Hendricks (Madmen) and Genevieve O’Reilly (Star Wars Episode III and Rogue One) as Jim’s wife, Angela.

Tin Star is currently available on Sky Atlantic On Demand and Now TV.
