Sylvester Stallone set to direct upcoming Creed sequel but will Rocky also return?

One thing we already knew thanks to some great social media communication from Sylvester Stallone, was that the sequel to Rocky spin-off Creed was going to happen.

Stallone has previously let slip that not only was he responsible for the script for the sequel but that it will also see the return of Rocky’s arch nemesis Ivan Drago, with his fellow Expendables co-star Dolph Lundgren reprising the role of the Russian killing machine.

On top of this it has now been revealed that Stallone will also be taking on directorial duties for the movie in place of original director Ryan Coogler who presumably has his hands full with his work on the upcoming Marvel Studios movie, Black Panther.

As with the previous information regarding the sequel, Stallone announced his delight at landing the job via his Instagram account;

“Looking forward to directing and producing the incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in CREED 2 next year … One more Round ! #creed2 #mgm#fighting #workout #exercise #boxing.”

Stallone is of course no stranger to the role of director, with several of the Rocky films being directed by him, as well as Staying Alive, the last Rambo film and his most recent directorial feature, 2010’s The Expendables.

Although Stallone doesn’t specifically state that he will be reprising the role of Balboa in the post, he did drop a heavy hint previously that the character will appear once more when he stated that the return of Drago will result in Rocky throwing at least one punch in the movie.

Balboa was seen to be suffering from non-Hodgkins lymphoma and going through chemotherapy in Creed which lead to an Academy Award nomination for Stallone and a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor for Stallone in 2016.

Filming on the Creed sequel is expected to begin in the next few months with firm no release date set at this time.

    Stallone directed Rocky IV and it turned out to be a classic. He wrote the script of Creed 2 and now decided to direct it this highly-anticipated sequel. Have a feeling it will be great. Fingers crossed.
