Tragic accident on Deadpool 2 results in death of stunt performer.

Tragedy has hit the Deadpool 2 set with the reported death of stunt performer SJ Harris who passed away after an accident during filming in Vancouver on Monday morning. Although the exact details of how the accident occurred have not been released, it is known to have happened whilst Ms Harris was riding a motorcycle for a stunt scene.

Ryan Reynolds paid tribute to Ms Harris yesterday. In a statement posted on the actor’s Twitter feed, Reynolds wrote;

“Today we tragically lost a member of our crew while filming Deadpool. We’re heartbroken, shocked and devastated… but recognise nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel in this moment.”

Co-starring as Cable in the sequel, actor Josh Brolin wrote on his Instagram account;

“We are mourning the death of a beautiful woman who died tragically this morning on our set. I had never met her but I know that she was a friend, a sister, a daughter, and a mentor. Through those eyes affected so deeply and intimately by her, it is a darker day. And the heart breaks and will slowly mend together as time sews beautiful memories honoring her. My heart goes out to her family and those friends who are obviously devastated at this heartbreaking news. Our prayers and condolences.”

20th Century Fox also reached out to pay their respects;

“Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”

Witnesses told local TV network CTV in Vancouver that Ms Harris had lost control of the vehicle and had narrowly missed pedestrians followed by her then crashing through a glass window pane. It was also reported that Ms Harris had successfully practised the stunt several times before the fatal accident occurred during the fifth take. It was reported that the stunt performance took place with Ms Harris not wearing a crash helmet. Production of the movie was immediately shut down, presumably for investigation into the accident and no restart date has been provided as of yet. It is unknown how long investigations will take and whether this will cause any scheduling issues for the feature release date. The Television network also added that an Advanced Life Support ambulance was at the scene of the accident for approximately 45 minutes before it left without its lights or sirens activated.

Our condolences go out to all affected in this tragedy.
